Sesame and Jaggery Power Packed Bar - Step by Step Recipe

Can something sweet really be healthy?? Oh Yes! If it has jaggery, toasted sesame, nuts, raisins all combined with honey and clarified butter.
All of the above are wonder foods and we all know that they have many benefits!
This months Magic Mingle challenge is to create a dish with sesame and jaggery, I thought of this Nutri – Bar as its something that is not only very easy to make but is a great source of instant energy after all the running!

Ingredients
Quantity
Grated jaggery
6 tbsp loosely packed
Toasted sesame seeds
1 tbsp
Honey
½ tbsp
Instant oats
2 tbsp
Raisins
8-10
Chopped almonds
Chopped
Clarified  butter / Ghee
1 tbsp + little to grease the tray or plate

Makes: 8-10 small square pieces
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time:5 minutes

Method:
  • Grate jaggery, chop almonds, toasts the sesame seeds, grease a tray or a plate and keep all the ingredients ready.

Take a non-stick pan or a heavy bottom pan; once the pan is hot, keep it on low-medium flame, add 1 tbsp of ghee / clarified butter to it.
Add ghee
Add honey

  • Then add ½ tbsp of honey, the following steps are very important as have to be done quickly.
  • Add the grated jaggery, it should just melt, immediately add sesame, raisins, almonds, oats, ensure that jaggery does not burn in this process. (You will know its burning when it changes colour and smells burnt)

When jaggery is still in the liquid state pour it in the greased plate, smoothen it and makes cuts of desired shape immediately. Once is cools down, cutting the bar becomes a tough task.
Pour it on the greased plate and level it
Leave the plate to cool, once cooled store in an air tight container.
One piece of this before exercise or after exercise is a great source of instant energy and it’s so healthy!!
